Schollenmühle

Fascinating and interesting facts about peat-making and nature in the Schollenriet.

The Schollenmühle is a former peat factory situated in the middle of the Bannriet nature reserve between Altstätten and Oberriet. The rickety, old, crooked buildings look as if they have stories to tell about the peat and the landscape. Under the direction of the Pro Riet Rheintal association, the former peat factory was converted into an information centre for visitors to the nature reserve in winter 2009/2010. At the same time, significant environmental improvements were made to the Schollenmühle site and its surroundings.
