Saurer Museum

Saurer Museum
In addition to different commercial vehicles, PostBuses and fire engines, the Saurer Museum also has a “Chlüpperlimaschine”, a Saurer embroidery machine, in its collection.
The museum is dedicated to chronicling the history of the once world-famous company. Utility vehicles throughout the generations are on display. The legendary “Car alpin”, an unusual bus that was part of the Zurich tramway, military cars of all kinds and a large exhibit of engines bear witness to the pioneering spirit of the time. The museum also has a section dedicated to textile machines where looms and embroidery machines are on exhibit. The oldest machine, a "Chlüpperlimaschine", was already in use as early as 1860. The automatic S1 embroidery machine is controlled by a “mechanical computer” built in 1912 and stitches the exquisite St.Gallen embroideries. All textile machines are in working condition and demos of their operation can be arranged in advance.
