Restaurant National zum Goldenen Leuen

The Restaurant National zum goldenen Leuen - affectionately called “NAZ” by the people of St.Gallen - captivates with its rustic charm and invites you to linger with its rustic ambience and hearty specialties.
At the Restaurant National zum goldenen Leuen - affectionately known as “NAZ” - guests can enjoy a very special culinary experience: here they can enjoy specialties such as Chäschüechli, white sausages with pretzels and Swiss tapas, which are known far beyond the city limits. A freshly tapped beer from the huus-braui in Roggwil is the perfect accompaniment. The NAZ is a traditional pub in the picturesque Riegelhaus, which delights with its rustic charm and relaxed atmosphere. Situated in the heart of St. Gallen's southern old town on Grüningerplatz, just a few steps from St. Gallen Cathedral and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Klosterplatz, the NAZ invites both locals and tourists to linger. Every guest feels immediately welcome in the cozy dining room around the historic tiled stove. An insider tip: if you visit the toilets, you will discover an impressive wallpaper by St. Gallen textile company Jakob Schlaepfer in the ladies' room, while the men's room is decorated with artistic tiles by Austrian artist Manfred Deix. History meets indulgence: as early as 1894, the National was a place where German beers and wines were traded. Back then, imported beer mugs had to be provided with a Swiss calibration in order to be used in the beer halls.
