The Macelleria d'Arte ("Art Butchery") was opened in 1989/90 in the premises of a former butchery on Metzgergasse in St.Gallen (CH).

The name Macelleria d'Arte also alludes to the logic of today's art market. The artists are symbolically led to the slaughterhouse of the art trade. The philosophy of the unconventional gallery is to present committed contemporary artists. The gallery changes its exhibits every month. The openings are always a special event. The Macelleria d'Arte not only exhibits fine art, but also hosts cultural events such as readings, concerts, cabaret and much more on its premises. Today the gallery is located on Raiffeisenplatz.
