Drei Weieren (Three Ponds)
Created artificially in the 17th century to secure the water supply for textile bleaching grounds and fire brigades, the ponds soon became popular places for swimming and relaxation. At the time, bathing areas were strictly separated by gender – hence the names «Manne- und Buebeweiher» for men and boys and «Frauen- und Familienbadi» for women and families.
Today, the Drei Weieren are considered among the most beautiful natural swimming pools in Switzerland. The charming historic Art Nouveau wooden buildings recall St.Gallen’s past as a global centre of the textile industry. Besides swimming, this local recreation area is also ideal for walking and picnicking.
Getting to the Drei Weieren:
- The pond landscape is very well connected to the city centre. You can take the Mühlegg funicular or city bus no. 6 towards St. Georgen Bach to the «St. Gallen, Mühlegg» stop.
- From there, the ponds are around a five-minute walk away.
- During the summer months, a free swimming bus also runs directly to the Drei Weieren.
- Visitors arriving by car can find paid parking spaces, including near the Frauenbad.
Opening hours of the natural swimming pools:
- During the swimming season, the bathhouse at «Gemeinschaftsbad Dreilinden», also known as Mannenweier, is generally open daily from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm. Swimming in the Mannenweier is possible at any time.

Admission prices
- Access to the 3Weieren recreation area is generally free of charge.
- Admission to «Gemeinschaftsbad Dreilinden», also known as Mannenweier, is free.
- Admission to «Familienbad Dreilinden» is subject to a fee.
