Immediately after the start in Au at the train station, the trail leads past a small stream and meadows. A short time later, you reach the Rheintaler Höhenweg, which leads to the Maienhalde restaurant. Various panels provide information about wine growing in the region.
From Berneck via Heerbrugg, the trail leads to the Forum Widnau business hotel. The trail then follows the Rheintaler Binnenkanal before a final climb to Marbach and the Romantik Restaurant Schloss Weinstein awaits.
