The Brauerei Locher AG brewery is the only brewery left in the Appenzell region. This independent family-run company is now in its fifth generation of brewing and has earned a solid reputation for its beer specialities and traditional beers. The beers are made by hand using traditional methods, with particular attention given to the raw materials. The Appenzeller Bier is available throughout Switzerland and on flights operated by Swiss Air. Especially popular are the full-bodied Quöllfrisch lager and the Vollmond beer, originally brewed on the night of a full moon using organic ingredients. During an exciting tour of the brewery, visitors learn many interesting facts about the brewing methods used and how Appenzeller Bier and Säntis malt whisky are made from water fresh from the brewery’s spring.
