Appenzell Ethnology Museum Stein AR

Appenzell Ethnology Museum Stein AR
The museum provides a vivid insight into Appenzell Alpine culture and the history of the textile cottage industry.

The exhibition presents equipment and vessels used in alpine cheese-making, regional jewelry for animals and humans – from bells and suspenders to traditional costume jewelry – as well as farmhouse and furniture painting from several centuries. Among the highlights are the famous “Gaiser Wände” (Gais walls).

With sample books, two hand embroidery machines, and a unique flat-stitch loom, the museum also provides a lively insight into the eventful textile history of the Appenzell region.

Live activities take place in the textile department at certain times.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also hosts special exhibitions on various topics.
