Säntis – the mountain
Important Information: The Säntis Cable Car will be out of service from May 1 through late fall 2026 due to renovation work.
“Säntis – das Hotel” and the restaurants on Schwägalp remain open for you throughout this period.
The drive through the Appenzell region or Toggenburg builds anticipation for the natural beauty of the Säntis. Schwägalp, the starting point of the Säntis Cable Car, is accessible year-round via well-plowed roads. In just 10 minutes, you glide to the summit, with views of six cantons, Lake Constance, and the Alps.
In case of bad weather, the indoor adventure world offers entertainment on the topics of weather, ice, geology, and the history of the cable car. The Säntis Summit Restaurant spoils guests with culinary delights featuring Appenzell and Toggenburg specialties, as does the hotel restaurant. The Passhöhe Inn on the Passstrasse is ideal for a coffee break or a hearty fondue.

During the week, the cable car makes its last descent at 3:30 p.m., while weekend hours remain unchanged. On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the last regular ascent is at 3:00 p.m. and the last regular descent is at 3:30 p.m.
