Beer Bottle Museum
A tour of the world of bottles
The beer bottle museum at the Schützengarten brewery displays Christian Bischof's impressive collection of over 3000 beer bottles from 260 different Swiss breweries. Younger specimens from newly founded, small specialty breweries through to clay bottles that are over 140 years old are presented to the public here.
With 140 localities represented, it is impressively demonstrated that Switzerland, and eastern Switzerland in particular, was and still is a stronghold of beer brewing. At the end of the 19th century, for example, there were 600 breweries in Switzerland. The city of St. Gallen alone is represented in the Beer Bottle Museum with examples from seven breweries: Schönenwegen, Bavaria, Uhler, Hock, Hirschen, Stocken and, of course, Schützengarten.
A must for all beer lovers. Come by and discover a piece of Switzerland's brewing history. Admission is free.
