Monastery garden St.Gallen

Monastery garden St.Gallen
The monastery garden between the entrance to the Pfalzkeller and the government building invites you to linger.
Monastery gardens were once used by the monks to provide themselves with fruit, vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants. The first knowledge of horticulture in the monastery of St.Gallen was provided by fellow monks from the island of Reichenau. The St.Gallen monastery plan from the monastery library, which was created there around 825, contains the first indications of the content and positioning of gardens. The monastery garden is located on the site of the former court garden. It is not only an important part of the cultural heritage of the former prince abbey of St.Gallen, but also highlights the biodiversity in the middle of the city.
