Hirschen Wald - Inn & Bakery

Just over a thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by meadows and forests, here stands the Hirschen Wald. A stately inn in the friendly Appenzellerland. A naturally cheerful hospitality, a refined cuisine that the owners take care of themselves. All this is part of the tradition at the Hirschen Wald. The two cozy dining rooms, the 270-year-old wall buffet, the old wood-fired oven - they all tell a story. Here you can celebrate the festivities as they fall. The hotel rooms in the Hirschen, tastefully furnished, are bright and comfortable. Each has a shower/WC and TV. Each one is rurally quiet. And every guest can see their own piece of Appenzell from the windows. We renovated most of the rooms in 2022. We still bake in the old oven almost every day. For three generations, the Hirschen has been filled with the aroma of fresh bread and small pastries that are known far and wide. They are made according to carefully guarded family recipes. Hiking trails literally pass by the front door of the Hirschen. They lead over hills, through forests, across country. And more than that, they lead imperceptibly away from the hustle and bustle, the stress, past a shady tree, past a remote farmstead, further and further into the silence. It is not far to Lake Constance, to the small town of Appenzell or up into the Alpstein. St. Gallen, with its museums, cinemas and theater, is also within easy reach. The Mettler family looks forward to welcoming guests to their home.
