Admission to the St.Gallen Abbey District World Heritage Site
The present library was built between 1758 and 1767 under the direction of the Bregenzerwald master builder Peter Thumb. The changing exhibitions of valuable manuscripts and unique objects give a lasting impression of the monastic culture of St.Gallen. The baroque hall of the Abbey Library, with its rich rococo decoration, is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. The library, which is still in use today, contains around 170,000 books. The impressive collection of original early medieval manuscripts makes this institution world famous. More than 400 volumes are over 1,000 years old.
The ticket gives you access to the three exhibitions (Abbey Library / Vaulted Cellar / Exhibition Space) in the Abbey District of St.Gallen, a World Heritage Site.
