Winery Zünd
In harmony with nature.
Viticulture in the region has a long tradition. More than 100 years ago, Altstätten was the largest wine-growing area in the canton of St. Gallen. In the vineyards of Weinbau Zünd you can find young vines as well as vines up to 45 years old. Decisive for special wines is the soil, the climate and the topography. They influence the taste, the depth of aroma and the play of sweetness and acidity of the grapes. There is a lot to offer here: Around 11 hectares of vineyards are cultivated on the best vineyard sites in the St.Gallen Rhine Valley, between Eichberg and Rebstein.
Wine quality depends not only on the conditions of nature but also on the winemaker and the cellar master. The region is spoiled by the "grape stove" Föhn. The warm, dry wind favors the formation of sugar in the grapes. This has a particularly positive effect after the first cold nights in the fall. The vineyards are gradually planted with PIWI grape varieties, which are less susceptible to powdery and downy mildew. This makes it possible to produce an attractive and sustainable wine. The varieties Maréchal Foch, Muscaris and Divico are already growing in the vineyards. Since 2022, production is additionally according to organic standards .
.
The Zünd winery is a meeting place for local wine culture. Guests have the opportunity to taste the exquisite wines directly on site in the vinotheque. There is also the offer of cellar and vineyard tours.
