Appenzell Railways
The extensive route network takes passengers from Altstätten, Rheineck and Rorschach as well as from St.Gallen and Gossau directly to Appenzellerland.
On June 1, 2006, the Trogenerbahn, the Rorschach-Heiden-Bergbahn, the Rheineck-Walzenhausen Mountain Railway, and the former Appenzeller Bahnen merged to form Appenzeller Bahnen AG. Despite its relatively short history, the company looks back on over 150 years of history. With the addition of the Frauenfeld-Wil Railway in June 2021, Appenzeller Bahnen is now one of the four largest meter-gauge railways in Switzerland.
Whether you’re seeking enjoyment, adventure, exercise, or a touch of humor, a wide range of experiences for all ages awaits along the rail network spanning four cantons. Discover the region in a fun way and combine rail travel with unforgettable excursions in modern or historic vehicles.
