For an exquisite outdoor picnic, the city of St.Gallen offers countless possibilities: be it in the secluded city park, at the idyllic Three Ponds or at the Peter and Paul wildlife park. Experience picnicking in a whole new way with the SMALLNIK picnic: culinary delicacies from regional producers, combined with a hand-stitched BIGNIK picnic blanket.
Regional specialities like a traditional Swiss pastry with a filling of dried pears, Appenzellerpantli (a regional dried sausage), St.Gallen monastery cheese and GOBA rhubarb spritzer, everything is lovingly prepared for you by Kündig Feinkost AG located at Webergasse 19. Other delicacies or drinks can be purchased right in the shop. Please keep the business hours in mind.
SMALLNIK?
The picinic for connoisseurs.
With the steadily growing BIGNIK art installation, the conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin from the Atelier für Sonderaufgaben (Studio for Special Works) give picnics a whole new meaning: “Together, they created a huge picnic blanket for the entire population, large enough to cover 100 football pitches, comprised of 293,438 blankets, one for each inhabitant of the region.” This has been the vision of the Riklin brothers who began to develop the idea and the concept for the BIGNIK project six years ago. The blankets are collected with the help of the local residents, sewn together to form modules and laid out once a year as a huge picnic blanket.
To ensure that the BIGNIK blanket remains visible throughout the year, the individual modules are loaned out to the guests of the region. St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourism and Textilland Ostschweiz collected tablecloths, bedsheets and curtains and turned them into blanket modules in front of the St.Gallen Town Hall for two days. These blankets modules can now be reserved online together with a picnic basket as SMALLNIK – Bon appétit! Or as the Swiss say, En Guätä!
