St.Gallen-Lake Constance

Your destination between Lake Constance and the Säntis mountain peak

The holiday destination on Lake Constance

The St.Gallen-Lake Constance region is nestled in an idyllic setting between Lake Constance and the Alpstein Massif. To the west is the striking façade of the Hof zu Wil, the former summer residence of the abbots of St.Gallen and today an old town which bears witness to a number of different eras.

Once a hub of international trade in the 18th/19th century and a source of drinking water, today Lake Constance is the perfect holiday destination with something for everyone, from water sports and lakeside restaurants to boat cruises, hiking trails and much more. Rorschach is still home today to the oldest bathhouse of its kind and is a popular place for holidays on Lake Constance.

The starting point for tours, adventures and holidays in Eastern Switzerland is St.Gallen, the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and textile city. This cultural centre in Eastern Switzerland combines urban flair with lush greenery. Surrounded by interesting sights and attractions, excursion destinations and beautiful natural scenery, the city is the ideal hub for active, cultural but also eco-friendly holidays.

At the point where the Rhine flows into Lake Constance at the easternmost edge of the region is where the valley of opportunity and wine begins. The Rhine Valley, known for its wine production and home to various international companies, can hardly be surpassed in diversity. The Rheintaler Höhenweg, a trail running along the top of the Rhine Valley, provides insight into this fascinating valley with its natural landscapes, its proximity to the neighbouring countries of Austria and Liechtenstein as well as the architecture of castles and stately residences along the way.

The Alpstein, a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps, is considered one of the most spectacular regions in Eastern Switzerland, offering endless hiking trails and destinations for mountain excursions. On clear days, the striking Säntis peak offers a magnificent panoramic view of six countries. Day tours or a relaxing gondola ride followed by delicious local fare complete a day of exploration in the St.Gallen-Lake Constance region.
