Tobias Schmid founded the family business in 1866, which is now run by Christoph Schmid. Viticulture has an ancient tradition in the St.Gallen Rhine Valley and dates back to Roman times. Vineyards are already mentioned in the oldest Berneck document from 892. Castles and palaces were built in the vineyards. This includes the Rosenburg, which is owned by the family and is the landmark of the wines and the winery.
The grapes grow on the sunny and steep vineyards. The wines are often referred to as "handmade in Berneck", since a lot of work is done by hand on the steep slopes. In addition, the wines are pressed as gently as possible.
Christoph Schmid and his team are passionate winemakers. This is how they have been producing selected wines and specialties since time immemorial.
The romantic and beautiful winery also has a large event building. Whether weddings, birthdays or team events - the rustic, yet modern designed premises offer the special setting.
