Heldsberg artillery fortress

Heldsberg artillery fortress

A special kind of excursion experience, whatever the weather.

The Heldsberg artillery works was part of the border fortifications in the Rhine Valley from the Second World War until 1993. Due to its location, it controlled the southern end of Lake Constance in the north with its four 7.5 cm fortress guns and the Rhine crossings in the Rhine Valley as far south as Montlingen. The barrage at Stoss near Altstätten secured the crossing into the Appenzell region. The Heldsberg Fortress Museum also includes the impressive underground command bunker of Border Brigade 8, Haslen AI, with over 30 rooms dedicated to the "Cold War" period.

In the Heldsbergstube and in the "Kästlis" Haslen soldiers' bar, guests are treated to drinks and food. Changing special exhibitions enrich the military history museums.
