Chapel of Maria Dreibrunnen

Chapel of Maria Dreibrunnen

The pilgrimage church is the most important cultural object in the municipality of Bronschhofen. The name Dreibrunnen resulted from the three springs that rise in the vicinity.

The founder and year of foundation of the church in Dreibrunnen are unknown, but its origin can probably be dated to the first half of the 13th century. In the 13th century, the church was owned by the Counts of Toggenburg.

Still in the time of the Reformation, the citizens and the Heilig-Geist-Spital Wil acquired the church from the state of Zurich.

The church received its present external appearance through the reconstruction of 1672. Most of the artistic furnishings date from the period 1761-1763.

When the hospital office sold the property of Dreibrunnen in 1840, it changed hands several times until Maria Dreibrunnen was bought by the parish of Wil in 1938.

Since then, a much-visited place of pilgrimage has been created with the new parish house and the pilgrims' inn, as well as through various interior and exterior renovations of the church.
